Borrowed Vintage Dress & Tiara from the Queen

ClassicThrifty Contribution

For her wedding, Princess Beatrice wore a vintage Norman Hartnell dress on loan from her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, according to a statement provided by Buckingham Palace on Saturday.

The dress, crafted from beau de soie taffeta with organza sleeves and trimmed with duchess satin, was refit for the bride.

She topped off the look with the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara — which Queen Elizabeth also wore on her own wedding day. Originally, the tiara was crafted in 1919 for Queen Mary by Garrard and Co. It was made from a diamond necklace gifted by Queen Victoria, according to the palace.

The groom donned a morning suit for the occasion.

Louis Vuitton’s dreamy new Escale collection

ClassicThrifty Contribution

In uncertain times, many of us dream of escape, perhaps to a far-away beach, where the sun shines and salt water laps softly against bare legs.

Such is the inspiration behind Louis Vuitton’s just-launched collection for spring, aptly named LV Escale, which translates to a stopover on a journey. The tie-dye printed goods (including ready-to-wear, accessories and swimwear) range from deep blue to warm pink colorways.

90’s Accessory Throwback

Everyone Is Wearing '90s Snap Clip Barrettes Again

'90s hair is alive and well in 2018. On the Fall runways, the claw clip had a comeback at Alexander Wang, while the comb-headband was resurrected at Prabal Gurung. The latest throwback hair accessory starting to bubble up on Instagram, where all old trends boomerang, is the snap barrette (also called contour clip or snap clip). One look at the triangular hair pin will hit you with some major middle school nostalgia.

Oh What Was: Stirrup Pants

We all know that fashion is cyclical and that most trends — even ones we’d thought had gasped their last breath — tend to return in one form or another.

Woman Wearing Black Stirrups with shoes..

While the thought of wearing stirrup pants may make you cringe, it’s time to give them a second chance. Today’s versions are sleeker and decidedly chicer. They play well with the massive athleisure trend as a sort of leggings version 2.0. But they’re also turning up in office-friendly styles that take inspiration from trousers. And unlike the 80s when stirrups were strictly worn inside shoes, fashion girls are opting to wear the straps on the outside as well.

For her post-performance ensemble, Lizzo chose an '80s-tastic purple dress complete with massive, off-the-shoulder puff sleeves, a pleated circle skirt, and a wide V-neck. She basically looked like high school Josie from Never Been Kissed but fashion. What's an '80s-inspired ensemble without a scrunchie?

New life to the best of yesterday

Thrifty Dreams came about ( finally, but we’ll get back to that) from my love of travel and finding stylish stuff along the way, pleasuring my never ending passion for both fashion and history. Fashion and history go hand in hand. It’s not just a daily expression of self, but can be viewed as a reflection of the times.

Just seeing how fashion evolves and even repeats itself  has always been fascinating to me. Specifically, vintage publications can be intriguing depictions of life as it was during different era’s as well as different lifestyles, fashion and cultures.

I get an immense amount of joy finding preloved vintage goodies, and continuing the life cycle of an otherwise forgotten piece of time. This site gives me a place to curate, chronicle and share my day to day findings and daily inspirations, while always recycling the love of carefully selected thrifty dreams because some things shouldn’t be forgotten.

Stay tuned,
